Redefining responsible innovation and cyber resilience

GCash iGnite Innovation Summit discusses the future of digital finance, cybersecurity, and AI
As businesses face the challenge of leveraging rapid digital innovation without exposing themselves to complex risks, the fifth edition of iGnite: The GCash Innovation Summit, held last July, aimed to equip organizations on how they can harness artificial intelligence (AI) effectively while navigating an increasingly complicated digital landscape.
Reflecting on the evolution of the summit since its inception, Martha Sazon, president and CEO of Mynt, the parent company of the group behind GCash, emphasized that the objective of digital financial platforms has far beyond basic inclusion.
“When we first launched iGnite in 2022, our goal was simple: to bring together people who believe in the power of technology to transform lives,” she said. “Today, that belief has even more relevance. The next chapter of financial inclusion is not just about expanding access — it’s about helping individuals make real financial progress.”
However, while technology can supply the tools, creating the bridge to close that gap still requires real-world execution. Mynt Chief Technology and Operations Officer Pebbles Sy cautioned against viewing emerging technologies like AI as a cure-all, advocating instead for a human-centric approach towards innovation.
“AI isn’t a silver bullet. It’s a tool that requires smart governance, clean data, and strong human judgment,” she noted.
“With every grand power comes real responsibility. At the end of the day, the future of digital finance won’t be built by technology alone. It will be built by people who know how to connect real human needs, real risks, and real opportunities,” she added.
And such power is indeed grand. Delivering the summit’s keynote address, Senator Bam Aquino, chair of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology, stressed how much private-sector innovation can inform and influence public policy to sustain national economic momentum.

Senator Aquino highlighted how data and AI, alongside consumer behavior insights generated by fintech platforms like GCash, can help lawmakers craft more responsive, evidence-based economic legislation.
“You cannot be a competent leader, a competent business, or a competent government if you don’t utilize the tools that are already available right now,” he said. “That data is so important in policymaking and in crafting a policy framework that can truly uplift Filipinos’ lives. It’s already there. If we turn our backs on it, it won’t just be stupid, it will become criminal.”
Cyber resilience in AI-powered landscape
In utilizing such tools, however, the security of enterprises and consumers must not be compromised, especially as they digitally engage and transact with each other. This has been further explored in GSafe: The Vanguards of Trust, a specialized mini-summit within the iGnite, which discussed cyber resilience in an AI-powered landscape.
Addressing the rapidly evolving threat environment, GCash Chief Information Security Officer Miguel Geronilla warned that generative AI has lowered the cost and barrier to entry for sophisticated cybercriminals.
“Today a face can be generated, a voice can be cloned, a message can be written in your style, and an account can look completely legitimate — all done quickly, cheaply, and at scale,” he explained, adding that it is now an obligation for every digital-forward company to look beyond one’s own institutions and consider the broader digital space.
“Security today is no longer about protecting our own applications, infrastructure, or perimeter. We are here to protect an entire ecosystem,” he said. “A threat that moves across institutions requires that we all move together.”

Role of AI in business
To give attendees different approaches for operationalizing AI and cyber resilience into their businesses, the summit structured its core discussions across four dedicated tracks.
The AI Business Engine track, industry leads explored the impact of AI, automation, and emerging technologies on financial services; while the Intelligent Trust track looked into how zero-trust architectures, AI-powered cloud security protocols, and adaptive real-time protections against AI-enabled fraud can build resilience and maintain customer trust.
The Agentic Enterprise track examined how autonomous AI agents and digital technologies are transforming work roles and processes and workforce capabilities; while the RegTech Revolution track evaluated the role of AI in fraud prevention, responsible governance, and digital innovation.
Alongside the panel discussions, the event hosted a developer hackathon, regulatory roundtables, and the Ayala CIO Forum, reinforcing the necessity of multi-stakeholder collaboration to build a resilient Philippine digital economy.
Through the iGnite Innovation Summit 2026, GCash continues to empower sectors to explore how the country can reap the of emerging technology like AI benefits securely and responsibly to create a more inclusive digital economy.
