DITO Telecommunity Corp. is targeting an overall growth rate of more than 20% in 2026, with its enterprise arm posting rapid growth, despite the country’s economy slowing sharply in the second quarter, according to its executives on Wednesday.
“It’s not good for business,” Adel A. Tamano, chief revenue officer (CRO) of DITO Telecommunity, told reporters on the sidelines of the DITO BizBayani Awards, referring to the country’s slower gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the second quarter.
The Philippine GDP grew by 2.3% in the second quarter from a year earlier. This is slower than the 5.4% expansion in the same quarter last year, and the 2.8% growth in the first quarter.
The growth is the slowest since the fourth quarter of 2009, excluding the pandemic, driven by the Middle East conflict buoying inflation and putting weight on household spending and investments.
“Despite that, DITO as a company is growing double-digit. We’re targeting more than 20% overall growth this year,” Mr. Tamano added. “Our enterprise business is actually growing really fast; we’re growing maybe 68% to 70%.”
Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are one of the strong drivers of the company’s enterprise arm’s rapid growth, he also said.
The company also said in June that its revenue is expected to grow by more than 20% in 2026 to between P24 billion and P27 billion. The expansion is driven by continued subscriber growth despite softer market conditions.
“DITO is a type of company- we’re a gritty company. We go through hard times. We launched in the pandemic, so we know how it is to grow a business during very difficult times,” Mr. Tamano said.
To spur faster economic growth, he urged the government to promote digitalization across government and financial services, saying that this could support the telecommunications industry while creating ripple effects across other sectors. — Edg Adrian A. Eva
