TWENTY-EIGHT Filipinos injured in a bus mishap on Germany’s A96 highway are either now in Milan or en route to Milan, the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt (PCG Frankfurt) said on Wednesday.
Three passengers are still receiving medical care in Bavarian hospitals, while the two fatalities are being repatriated, the PCG Frankfurt said in a statement.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) provided transportation back to Milan for seven of the Filipinos cleared for travel, the PCG Frankfurt said. Their lunch and other provisions were given by the consular team led by Consul General Marie Yvette B. Abalos.
Ms. Abalos and her team are still in Munich, coordinating with doctors for the welfare and needs of all affected Filipinos and their families.
They are joined by the OWWA Rapid Response Team led by Administrator Patricia Yvonne M. Caunan and Philippine Honorary Consul in Munich Stefan Deti.
Both teams are also securing legal assistance for the passengers and their families.
Jainal T. Rasul, Jr., undersecretary for the Department of Migrant Workers spoke with German police regarding the importance of a thorough investigation, with future legal action a possibility.
The German Embassy in Manila on Monday said that local authorities in Bavaria are investigating the cause of the crash.
The accident occurred on Sept. 27, when a bus carrying 33 Filipinos from Milan to Munich for the Oktoberfest beer festival veered off the road and overturned. No other vehicle was involved.
